About
...from the Maker
Hi! My name is Sheryl and I’m the maker behind nordy made, my minimalist, Scandinavian inspired jewelry line. The name “Nordy” is a slang word that’s used to describe someone from Northern Ireland - the place where I was raised for my first 22 years.
This dream business was born out of a need for a creative outlet as a new stay-at-home mom, after leaving a 10 year Fashion Design career in NYC to move to Seattle- my husband's birthplace. I had fallen in love with Scandinavian aesthetics from my travels as a Fashion Designer and it has influenced my work and life ever since. My line seems to encompass little pieces of all the places I’ve been including Copenhagen, Paris, the Pacific Northwest, and even our Mid-Century home.
As a busy mom of two, my goal was to create something that was effortless and timeless- based on a very neutral palette so that these pieces are easy to wear by anyone and for all occasions, day or night. Even though they are simple, many pieces offer something a little unique like my signature and best selling MILA ear jackets which have inspired so many more styles, all of which are totally interchangeable with the ability to wear them in 5 ways! My materials include 14k gold fill, brass, sterling silver, gold plating, signature white powder coating, walnut and more recently, mother of pearl and some semi precious stones.
I hope you will LOVE these pieces and all the compliments that come your way from wearing them. It is my absolute passion of mine to bring these to life and see them out in the world! I am beyond grateful that I get to do this job and I appreciate every sale, review, follow, comment and connection that is made.
Creative Thread
A creative thread has ran through Sheryl's life since childhood. From a love of drawing, making and sewing early on, Sheryl went on to completing her undergraduate in Fine & Applied Arts at the University of Ulster, Belfast. She exhibited her oil paintings and installations at several art shows such as The Ulster Museum, The Waterfront Hall and The Engine Room Gallery. She also worked in fashion retail while studying and eventually became a Visual Merchandiser for a leading department store.
The completion of Masters degree in Fashion Design eventually took Sheryl to Fashion Avenue in NYC where she became a Head Fashion Designer for a multi label fashion company. She travelled the world visiting fashion trade shows, garment manufacturing facilities and many of the top fashion capital cities for trend research.
Self Taught
YouTube, google, trial and error, and a desire to learn after entering motherhood, would eventually lead Sheryl to launch her own jewelry line. It was something that started as more of a hobby or source of therapy and has turned into a job where she found her creative-self again and made more human connections in a whole new city of Seattle. She built a backyard studio from the ground up to support her growing business when her 2nd child was just 4 months old. It's been an evolving journey of hard work and balancing family life for this highly adaptive creative.
To create a jewelry line that is simple, versatile, timeless and one that people of all genders and ages love to wear, all while working from home and raising kids has been a real dream come true.
