Jewelry Care
Please care for your nordy made piece like fine jewelry. We recommend that you remove your jewelry before sleeping, swimming and showering for example, and that you avoid exposure to cleaning chemicals, perfumes, and sunscreen. Store your jewelry in a protective box or bag away from moisture to prolong it's life and to reduce the need for any maintenance.
Below are some basic care instructions for each material that we use but please reach out via email if you have any questions reagarding the care of your jewelry.
Please note: none of our metals contain any of the common allergens like nickel, lead or cadmium.
Jewelers Brass & 925 Sterling Silver
By nature, brass & sterling silver will darken over time. Some people love and embrace the natural patina. However, if you prefer to easily brighten and maintain the original shine, use a YELLOW Sunshine Polishing Cloth. Bar Keepers Friend also works like magic on brass. Just mix with water, rub over the piece, rinse and dry well. A standard silver cleaner works well on silver. My personal favorite that requires zero effort is called Brilliant Silver Cleaner. Just dip, wait for 30 secinds, rinse and dry well.
There are many easy and inexpensive ways to clean brass and silver using simple household products like using lemon juice, baking soda, white vinegar etc. Google is your friend! but I intend on adding my tried and true recipes soon!
14K Gold Filled
No care is required but a soft dry cloth or mild soap and water can be used if needed for any residue build up. Rinse and dry well. Gold fill is known to be waterproof but if you prefer you can avoid water to really prolong the look and life of the piece. A BLUE Sunshine polishing cloth is less abrasive than the yellow and is good for brightening up gold filled pieces if needed.
18k Gold & 24k Gold Plated
While no care is needed, it is advised to avoid wet & humid conditions for all metals. Storing your jewelry in a box or sealed bag is ideal. A soft cotton cloth can remove finger prints or residue build up. Avoid any abrasive materials or polishing cloths as this will remove the plating.
White Powder Coating
White powder coated pieces can tolerate soap and water. Clean as needed but avoid any abrasives that may lift the coating. Always avoid striking against hard surfaces to prevent scratches or chips.
Walnut
We use food-grade Danish Oil to finish our walnut pieces however, coconut or olive oil can also be used to maintain the richness of the wood grain if it lightens over time. Apply a small amount, (avoiding metal areas) and allow to soak in, then remove excess with soft cloth. Allow drying time before wearing.
